What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
Empowerment - It was interesting listening to Vicki talk about the challenges that some of our whanau face on an everyday life with financial support. We as teachers are able to empower our whanau and student through learning. I really like how Vicki spoke about how knowledge is power and that being a part of manaiakalni enables everyone to learn together.
What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
It was interesting learning about the different uses of coding programmes such as scratch and sheets.
What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Children these days are very much tech savvy. They are exposed to devices at such young ages that allow them to experiment with games and videos. Gaming for learning is awesome I absolutely loved exploring all the different coding and gaming platforms today such as Minecraft, Scratch, Hour of code, and the discovery series that code.org supplies. I know Minecraft will be a hit in my class.
